What is a Domain Name good for?

Every company should own at least one domain name. Due to the low cost of owning domain names, lots of companies register dozens or even hundreds domain names. Most companies register one domain name for each product or service they offer. For example, our parent company Hyson International Corp. registered domain names: hyson.com for company name, bestnet.net for general Internet services; chatking.com for chat room service, Webforum.net for Web Forum service, mailrobot.com for email processing service, ... and dozens of other domain names.

Here are some benefits of owning domain names:

  • Company image:

Your own domain name gives your company a first class corporate image.

  • More revenue and better customer service:

You will get a much higher response rate when you advertise with your own domain name instead of using hard-to-remember phone numbers or fax numbers. You won't lose customers because they forgot your phone number or fax number. At Bestnet Inc., our customers can place orders with us at: order@bestnet.net, they can reach our staff at: staff@bestnet.net, they can browse our online catalog at: http://www.bestnet.net.

  • Best investment:

Registering a domain name will be an excellent investment for your company. Though a registered domain name does not entitle you  to the trademark for the name (trademarks need to be registered through the trademark authority, not the domain name authority), it serves the same purpose: preventing other companies from using your name. Trademark owners faces many problems in Cyberspace. Even if "SIBS" is a registered trademark, Special Interest Book and Software still has a solid reason to register and use the domain name "SIBS.com." Did you know  that the domain name "Windows95.com" is not registered or owned by Microsoft?

Some domain names, such as .com domain names, can be registered by any company in any country. Your locally registered trademark may not be valid in foreign countries. Unlike trademarks, it is easy and very inexpensive to register a domain name. By registering your domain name now, you may avoid spending a huge amount of time and money in future legal battles.

  • Free advertising:

Every time you or your employees use your company's domain name, your company is being advertised and publicized.

  • Portability:

Your domain name is portable. If you change your Internet service provider or you move to a new city or a new country, you can still use the same domain name. No need to reprint your business cards, your company letterheads or your fax cover sheets.
